340i M Performance Edition

I am in the hunt for a new car (lightly used) and am considering several paths currently (S4, S6, C43amg, etc) when the 2016-18 340i came to my attention.
I like it because of the xdrive option (i will be daily driving this) and 6mt...overall seems like it can be a more livable option than a full m3 (though also toying with that idea).
Anywho as I was doing research about option/packages for the 340i I came across the "M Performance Edition" and despite several hours of research there are still some questions I have I was hoping to get some clarity on:
- First, it is unclear to me if this was a factory edition of the car you could order or if it is simply a 340i that then had M Performance Parts (like mppsk, spoiler, brakes,) added post-production?
- If it was a factory edition is it available in US/NA? A lot of the references I see to them are from Canada. I can't find any for sale currently so I assume they must have been a limited run? Also are they available in 6mt.
-
apologies if this is blatantly clear and I missed it somehow but any help would be appreciated.

I have a '17 340xi with MPPSK and I've never heard of an 'M Performance Edition'. Maybe it's a 340i that has a bunch of M Performance options as you describe in #1 above. I don't believe the MPPSK is a popular option as it wasn't well advertised by BMW - it's not even a factory option. Instead, it is either added at the VPC or by the dealer after the fact.
From an ownership perspective, I love it! Great soundtrack when in Sport mode and you can certainly feel the factory tune. I custom ordered the car as a lease and it was due back in May. Because of Covid, BMWFS offered me a 6 month extension, so I have it for a couple of more months! I'm confident my Boston area dealer will be looking to put it into used car inventory, so keep an eye out for it. It's loaded (in great shape), Mineral Gray over Coral Red, and will have under 18k miles at turn in. Unfortunately, it's an auto, so maybe not what you're looking for.
Good luck!

I believe that the M Performance Edition was a Canadian market only factory option. It sure had some nice options like Individual paint and interior. This video. shows it.

I just got a 2016 340i that has the side ground effects exactly like the car in that video. I was wondering why I couldn't find a lot of details regarding that option. Same wheels too. I can upload some pics if anyone is interested.

Hey Josh, sorry for the late response. Check my listing on eBay (2018 BMW 3-Series 340i xDrive | eBay) for all the answers you are looking for about the Canadian (ONLY) M Performance Edition. Mine is for sale, it is a 2018 with only 12271 miles on it.

To the OP - if you haven't already made a purchase, you can try to find a pre-owned 6-speed manual 340i and add the MPPSK at any BMW dealer. Last I checked, there were ~20 manual 340s on sale in the US (quite rare!) Of course, this kit doesn't include some of the M Performance accessories that come with the Canadian version (aero body panels, wheels, diffuser). Prices for the MPPSK vary so you should be prepared to shop around and negotiate. Here's a thread you may find useful: Mppsk.
If you did happen to find the car you wanted - share some pics! 😎

Thank you for the information and link. The MPPSK was actually called M Performance Package II in Canada. That also implies that there is an M Performance Package I (that included the M Suspension, M Sport Brakes, etc.).
The major thing about the M Performance Edition is about the BMW Individual options that are only possible to add on a car at time of manufacturing, as they could never be added afterword. These include the BMW Individual paint color and BMW Individual interior. Most of us know what would it cost to even try to add such options after production time (the ones that can be added). Of course, paint color cannot be done, since the value of a car would completely diminish in doing that. And though interior can be changed, the cost of doing it after production would be outrageous.
On top of that, the fact that the M Performance Edition is a limited production (with only 50 of each of the 4 available colors) makes it a really documented rare car.
Happy motoring.

Very cool, thanks for the info! Seems like there are a few overlaps with the rare ZHP version of the 340i:

Agreed, same as the ZHP from a performance aspect, but with a lot more of individuality and options added on top.

Just picked up a 2015 335i xDrive M-Sport, but it lists all the performance options individually on the sticker:
M Performance Power Kit
Performance Exhaust
M-Sport brakes (blue)
Sport automatic transmission
It also has the DHP, but I understand this is independent of the performance power kit.
Like the OP, I search far and wide to find a manual 335/340 M-sport, but used car market is crazy and I couldn't find a 6MT under $30k within 500 miles of me. I will say, the auto is fantastic and will keep me entertained for the next 8-12 months before the itch kicks in for another manual. Exhaust sound is amazing for an OEM 6 cylinder.

Congrats! The 35i models had the M Performance Power Kit (MPPK) option which did not include an upgraded exhaust. I think it came with a tune + intake. It's great you have the additional M Performance Exhaust on the list. It does make the car sound aggressive. Enjoy and post pics 😎

Thanks! It's my 3rd F30 and probably my favorite. Had a 2013 335i xDrive M-sport 6MT that was nothing but problems for 8 months before I sold it. Leased a 2018 340i xDrive 8AT for awhile, but made some money on a lease assumption after I got the itch for a manual again.
